Donegal radio station manager Bernie O’ Callaghan will attempt to establish a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous solo radio broadcast starting next Monday October 21st at 10am.
The Guinness Book of Records has a record for the longest continuous broadcast by a team of two presenters but does not have a record for a solo broadcast.
The record for a pairs broadcast is currently held by two presenters from Kiss FM in Berlin and stands at 73 hours.
Bernie presents the morning South West Breakfast Show on SWDCR 88.6 FM from 10am to 1pm three days a week and also presents Mid Week Music on Wednesday Night sponsored by Killybegs Credit Union.
SWDCR is the only fully licensed radio station in counties Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan and is also available on the internet and has a big audience among the ever increasing ex-patriot population and also has many listeners who have no connection with County Donegal.
O’ Callaghan, from Killybegs, is very well known in sporting circles as he is a former athletics and Sea Angling International and has also played hurling for the county.
He spent twenty five years as the National Race Walking Coach and is a member of the Donegal Athletics Team of the Millennium and was inducted into the Ulster Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
He has been involved in broadcasting for over twenty years and is attempting to establish a World Record in order to raise awareness of the station and raise funds to purchase new equipment so that SWDCR can provide a better service for the ever growing audience.
SWDCR broadcasts seven days a week for a total of fifty four hours broadcasting for six hours each week-day and for twelve hours on Saturday and Sunday. The SWDCR studios are located in the Ringfort Inn in Bruckless.
