DONEGAL TD Pears Doherty has said that for any television debate on the referendum to be fair, inclusive and representative it must involve Sinn Féin.
Pearse Doherty said: “Sinn Féin is key to the current referendum campaign and indeed the party’s stance is likely to determine the outcome.
“Sinn Féin has a very clear position, campaigning for a Yes vote which is distinct and separate from that of the government.
“We already know that the Taoiseach has refused to partake in public debate and that the Fianna Fáil leader has made an issue of this.
“However Gerry Adams TD is on record as willing and available to debate the Seanad with with Micheál Martin.”
Doherty added: “RTE or TV3 should now schedule a debate between the Sinn Fein and Fianna Fáil leaders as a matter of priority.”
