Club captains Aidan McKenna and Irene McFadden will have teams competing in the novice cross country championships which are being held in the Rosses this Sunday. Good luck to all as the new seasons gets underway.
The club held its annual awards ceremony on Friday night in the Station House Hotel and the winners were as follows:
Senior award award winners – Road athlete, Ivan Toner; Cross country athlete, Christopher Johnston; Track and field, Darren McBrearty; Most improved female athlete, Irene McFadden; Most improved male athlete, Kieran Coyle; Best newcomer, Niall Barry; Performance of the year, Ruairi Finnegan; Female athlete of the year, Fionnuala Diver; Male athlete of the year, Brendan Boyce; Masters athlete of the year, Ciaran Doherty; Captain’s award, Niamh McDaid; Club Person of the Year, Bernie Walsh.
Juvenile award winners – Cross country athlete, Peter Gibbons; Girl indoor athlete, Maeve Rafferty; Boy indoor athlete, Lisa Gibson; Sportshall, Oisin Bradley; Under-13 athlete, Conor Farrell; Team award, Liam Hannigan and Sean McGinley (u-11 600 metre boys); Most improved girl athlete, Rachel Tinney; Most improved boy athlete, Jamie Doherty; Track and field, Tara Carr; Performance of the year, Arlene Crossan; Athlete of the year, Tara Carr.
Gavin Crawford was the winner of the Oral 5K held in Ards Forest Park on Saturday afternoon in 17:18. Second was Sean Stewart in 17:42, with Brian Crossan third in 18:16. Letterkenny AC’s Irene McFadden was the fastest woman home in 21:35, with her club mates Sharon Black (22:04) second Sinead Peoples (22:31) third.
There was no winner of the club’s weekly lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 16, 21, 22 and 24, The four match two winners who won 20 euro were Rachel Bradley, James Malseed, Packie McGinley and Sidney Hunter. This weekend’s jackpot will be 620 euro.
