A new history book entitled ‘The History and Folklore of Cloughaneely’ by the Coroner John Cannon is to be launched next Saturday night, September 28, 2013 at Lough Altan Hotel, Gortahork.
The book which is bilingual in Irish and English describes in detail a scenic trip through historic Northwest Donegal, with emphasises on the history and folklore of his native Cloughaneely.
In the forward of the book, Mr. Cannnon writes that he hopes that his book will be a source of interest to local people, regarding their local place.
He also hopes it will encourage students and tourists to learn of the rich historic background associated with the particular sites, towns, villages and the islands of that area.
Mr. Cannon has a particular interest in the post famine emigration to Australia and the Donegal Relief Fund of 1858 which was established to assist emigration of the poor distressed people from Donegal to Australia.
Indeed, the well-known and respected coroner has already visited and studied the emigration epoch in various parts of Australia and lectured on the subject.
The book will be launched by the Rev. Pádraig Ó Baoill, President of Donegal Historic Society, and all are welcomed to the event on Saturday evening at 8pm.
Ta fáilte roimh go léir ag an ócáid stairiúl seo.
