The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team has received a huge boost after acquiring the services of a second search and rescue dog.
It follows the graduation of St Johnston man Garret Wilson and his dog Cody to novice search dog status.
Garret, already a member of the DMRT, completed a tough two day external assessment in the Mourne Mountains.
This means they are now on call 24/7 to search for missing persons, especially throughout Donegal.
Garret has spent the last 18 months, up to 6 times a week, working with Cody to achieve this accolade.
A spokesman for DMRT said they are delighted by Garret’s graduation.
“The fact that we have immediate access to 2 qualified search dogs is unique. In working closely with SARDA (I.N.) this shows that Donegal MRT is evolving in the right direction in regard to locating a missing person/ casualty as soon as possible.”
