A YEAR ago his song was on the lips of Donegal fans worldwide as his ‘Jimmy’s Winning Matches’ became the hippest GAA anthem of all time.
Sadly there’s no good news on the Donegal GAA front this September weekend – unless you’re Rory Gallagher from Kilcar…and your pub is so popular on a holiday island, you have to move to a bigger venue!
And it’s all because too many people were turning up for the craic in his fun-filled bar in Lanzarote.
“We have a new venue and we will be open next Monday,” Rory told Donegal Daily.
“We just had to get a bigger bar as we were getting done by the local police for overcrowding!
“The new pub holds 200 people now, and the new venue is just a 2 minute walk down the road from my last bar in old town Puerto del Carmen.
“I couldn’t let the old bar go though so I’m going to run two. The smaller bar is being converted into a sports bar and as I am so modest I’m just going to call it ‘Gallaghers’.
“I think all will be fine though,” said the Kilcar native.
“If it doesn’t work out we might have to move to bigger premises in Letterkenny instead!”
Rory admitted he was nervous about his new venture but insisted: “My nerves are wrecked….but we are going to give it a go and looking forward to the challenge.
“And of course everyone from Donegal is invited to the Monday night opening party (flights not included!).”
