PEOPLE in a Co Donegal village are being urged to help stamp out a series of vandal attacks after another incident last night.
James McCormack, a resident in Churchill, says another window was smashed in a vacant shop but that this is just the latest incident.
And he says with no Gardai in the village anymore, local people need to band together to prevent further attacks.
“I just wanted to bring to the attention of the people of Churchill village that a spate of graffiti and window smashing has been going on in the village over that past while,” said James.
“Even last night another large window was shattered in a vacant shop in the village, this is the third window in this building in the last few months, along with lewd graffiti sprayed in what looked like sheep marker spray at the entrance ramp to the pines estate on the outskirts of the village.”
Mr McCormack said security cameras are in use in some of the vacant stores and locals are advised that “just because we don’t have a Garda member in the village anymore we are not going to let our peacefull village be over run with this sort of carry on.”
He said local people had “reasonable evidence as to who carried out at least some of the last incidents and we will be approaching the Garda with this soon.”
Mr McCormack went on: “We hope it doesn’t come to this in such a small community and we know the parents can’t be watching all the time but this will have to be stopped in order to keep our community the way we like it.”
He said he was also urging local people to keep an eye out for neighbours following a spate of thefts.
