Naomh Muire 1-11 v Aodh Rua 0-6
Naomh Muire are in the Intermediate Championship Final following today’s semi-final win over Aodh Rua. Aodh Rua started the livelier and the lads were finding it hard to get any rhythm allowing Aodh Rua to get into a 0-4 to -0-1 lead and was it not for poor finishing by the Erne-siders…..they could have created damage early on. Naomh Muire scored their way back into level and just before HT Paul the Yank Boyle converted a penalty putting the lads into a lead their possession may not have deserved. Aodh Rua overall would have been disappointed to be down by a goal at HT .
The second half was a different performance by Naomh Muire and apart from the opening 5 mins – the lads went on to dominate the second half adding a further 6 points with Aodh Rua managing only a single score late on.
It’s great to get to another Intermediate Championship final and that will be against the impressive St Nauls who beat Naomh Columba well last night. The prize is not only a county title at this level but Senior Championship football in 2014. St Naul’s are a physically strong team led by Stephen Griffen. Naomh Muire will have to play the full hour in the final and a slow start like today will be punished without doubt. If the lads however can repeat the purple patch of today’s match which was the last 20 mins of the second half….and ensure that it is carried over the full game…..they can topple St Naul’s. In a way its good to come out of a Semi with plenty of work to do and things to improve and with time now to do that. No doubt Danny and the backroom team will get the lads down to serious preparation over the coming weeks….to be an hour away from Senior Championship football in 2014 requires little motivation.
Well done to Team and Management and again to a good support. The victory in a Semi-final is what matters and the team especially this years Minors involved dedicated the win to young Conor Boyle, their mate, who is critical in Hospital in the UK.
