Hundreds of students flooding into Letterkenny to study at the LYIT are being urged to get help when choosing accommodation.
Tanya Russell, Student Union Welfare Officer at Letterkenny Institute of Technology Student Union reminds students to contact their student union office when seeking accommodation.
“Welfare Officers, within Institute of Technologies and Universities throughout the country, provide all students with a list of accommodation providers in their area.
“This can be the most difficult decision for a student and their family to make. It is important that the student makes the right decision. Their first port of call should always be their Student Union.
“The Student Union offers free, impartial advice and also provides referral links to the Private Residencies Tenancies Board, the organisation that protects landlords and tenants rights’.
She said students must reach out for help when choosing an accommodation provider.
“Your student union can provide rent books and advice on your rights as a tenant. She suggests that before securing accommodation or paying a deposit check with your local Student Union Office’.
