GARDA OFFICERA WOMAN who went to pick up her husband who was on a night out found his body at the side of a Co Donegal road – the victim of a hit-and-run driver.

Jo McSherry found husband Alan dead on the roadside just outside Bundoran just after 5am on Sunday.

Mr McSherry, who was 48, was walking the two miles from Bundroan to his home in the townland of Boyannagh when he was hit by a car. Gardai found car parts at the scene.

It’s thought Mr McSherry had called home for a lift and his wife went to see if she could find him when she saw missed calls on her mobile phone.

She found her husband less than a mile from their home.

The couple moved to Leitrim from Merseyside around 15 years ago after visiting Bundoran in a camper van.

The couple were well-known around Bundoran. Mrs McSherry had worked at the a local adventure centre whilst her husband did part-time maintenance work.

He had been in the Bridge Bar, where he did some work, on Saturday night.

The head of the traffic corps in Donegal Michael Harrison urged the driver of the car to come forward.

Anyone with information should call Ballyshannon Garda station on 071 98 58530.
