DONEGAL’S spectacular scenery is set to be featured in a new documentary – giving the county another tourism boost.
A BBC crew has spent the week filming around the county.
And there was no better man to show them around than King of the Hills (and the Mountains) Jason Black.
The Letterkenny businessman said the crew from the Beeb were blown away by what they found.
The man who conquered Mount Everest earlier this summer said: “I’ve been working with the BBC on a documentary profiling hill walking and climbing in the wonderful hills of Donegal.”
He said they spent Thursday at his favourite spot – Errigal.
“The weather was beautiful and the views were spectular – the film crew’s jaws are still on the floor,” he told Donegal Daily.
“The tourism potential is phenomenal in the hills of Donegal.
“It’s for the BBC series ‘Ar Bhealach na Gaeltachta’
“Part of the story line is how the hills of Donegal have become so famous as a training ground in preparation for world class mountaineering, drawing parallels on how Chris bonington from the UK who was one of the world’s most famous adventures and of course myself used the Donegal landscape to take on the world’s biggest challenge Mt Everest.
“The documentary was shot in a four part series profiling the most spectular natural geography we have here in our county from the sights of the sea stacks & cliffs of Slieve League to the splender of Inishowen, Sliabh Sneacht and finishing on the champion of them all at Errigal.”
The BBC are due to show the series in the autumn.
It will feature Jason unfurling the Donegal flag he took to the top of Mount Everest back on top of Errigal.
“That was a very special moment for the cameras,” said Jason.
