Shay Given could earn a massive €12 million between now and 2016 – without making one save.

Shay - in for a big payday?

Shay – in for a big payday?

Given, who is signed to Aston Villa, is currently on €75,000 a week in wages.

However, he has been frozen out of the team by manager Paul Lambert who does not see him as being part of his future plans.

The 37 year old Lifford man can accept some sort of major pay-off from Villa and move on to a new club.

Or he can sit out his contract and not play any football and still collect his huge wages until he is 40.

The club and Shay have until September 2nd to agree a deal on his future.

A source said “Shay wants to play football but other teams are not prepared to pay him his current wages which are very high.

“It’s really a matter for what Shay wants to do as he holds all the cards.”
