SIX more County Councillors have been anonymously accused of breaching Ireland’s ethics laws in the latest correspondence.
RTÉ Raidío na Gaeltachta reported receiving a copy of the letters today.
A Donegal County Council spokeswoman said the authority’s Ethics Registrar Liam Ward is currently on holiday and will deal with the correspondence on his return.
However the correspondence is expected to be treated with “extreme caution” after previous poison pen letters proved groundless.
Cllr David Alcorn was last week cleared of expenses allegations after an investigation by the Standards In Public Office commission.
He will now take up his place on the Udaras na Gaeltachta body next month after his appointment was held up by a ten-month investigation.
The latest claims bring to 25 the number of allegations filed with the council and sent to various media outlets.
It’s understood the allegations this time relate to declarations of interest by some councillors or former councillors.
Another councillor named by the council in a statement two months ago was Cllr Dessie Larkin. He has dismissed the claims against him as “nonsense” and has vowed to clear his name.
Senator Brian O Domhnaill meanwhile is fighting claims against him through the courts. He too has denied all the allegations made against him.
