TWO people rescued off the Donegal coast were not wearing lifejackets and were uncooperative with their rescuers, the Irish Coast Guard said today.
A spokesman said that Greencastle Coast Guard boat and shoreline team and Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118 were tasked to two persons in the water in Lough Foyle from an overturned boat.
“The Coast Guard boat recovered both from the water at 8pm – they hypothermic but otherwise well but were uncooperative,” he said.
“Neither were wearing lifejackets and Gardai were on scene.”
He said the Greencastle Coast Guard shoreline team also then came across an injured young female and requested the ambulance be diverted to the scene.
The incident is just the latest around Ireland where people have taken to the sea without lifejackets.
