GARDA A MAN held at gunpoint and then battered with hammers has been released from hospital.

The victim of the horrendous attack near Ray, outside Rathmullan, had a shotgun put to his head by one gang member whilst three others repeatedly hit him.

The man was later taken to Altnagelvin hospital where he was also initially treated for a head injury.

However the man has made a good enough recovery to be released from hospital and was back in Donegal yesterday.

The reasons for the attack remain a mystery.

However Gardai in Milford are investigating the incident.

They are understood to be liaising with the PSNI on tracking down on a cross-Border gang behind the vicious attack.
