FIANNA Fail county councillor David Alcorn has been cleared of any expenses irregularities by the Standards In Public Office Commission.
Cllr Alcorn released a statement today confirming the investigation has now ended but he expressed his anger at the time it took to clear his name.
“I am baffled as to why it took Donegal County Council 10 months to investigate this matter and then for the council to decide to refer the matter to SIPO on June 21st, while it just took SIPO a few short weeks to decide that the entire file was without basis,” he said.
He said that the breaches referred to by Donegal County Council were “groundless” and that the anonymous complaints made against his did not warrant any investigation.
“I am publically demanding an explanation from Donegal County Council as to their conduct on this matter and why I was subjected to this treatment at their hands over the past 10 months and indeed how they delayed for days to inform me of the decision already taken by SIPO,” he added.
