THE bill after last night’s Letterkenny Hospital flood is already estimated at a million euro – and it could rise even higher.
Equipment was destroyed and patient files soaked when flood water poured through the multi-million euro Emergency Department at the hospital.
Hospital insiders say the damage could take weeks to repair.
“Equipment has been soaked and we’re not sure if it can be saved yet,” said one source.
“It will take some time to work out the cost but I reckon a million euro won’t cover it.”
Staff have been praised for working to help patients and move equipment as rainwater poured into the hospital.
Many items were removed before the worst of flood damage kicked in.
