Donegal North East TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has said that he will be demanding answers from the HSE following news that the new A&E Department at Letterkenny Hospital has been flooded once again.
The Department had been flooded prior to officially opening and Deputy Mac Lochlainn now wants to know why the lessons from that episode have not been learned.
The Sinn Féin Deputy said: “I am greatly alarmed to learn that the new A&E Department has been flooded again. This time at great inconvenience to staff and patients.
“This flooding follows news that due to staffing shortages, the A&E Department was struggling to cope with patient numbers.
“I will be demanding answers from the HSE on why lessons from the previous flooding were not learned? Why were the necessary flood defences not erected? How could such a costly project not have mitigated against any threat from flooding at planning stage?
“The public as well as staff at the A&E Department need answers to these questions and they need cast iron assurances that this will not be allowed to happen again with the necessary engineering and design remedies provided immediately.
