An on-the-run raider was caught when he took his balaclava off while robbing a Drumkeen petrol station.
The dumb Dubliner was part of a six man gang that stole €1,500 in cash and €3,200 worth of cigarettes from the Easy Stop filling station in Drumkeen.
John McDonagh of 7 Kylmore Grove, Ballyfermot, was charged with burglary and allowing himself to carried in a stolen vehicle on July 30, 2012.
The gang wore balaclavas when they smashed a CCTV camera and entered the store.
At one point McDonagh temporarily took off his mask when an automatic security light came on in a stairwell and he was captured on CCTV.
His identity was confirmed by Gardai in Dublin where he had previous convictions.
Gardai also identified him on CCTV as a passenger of stolen van, fitted with false number plates which had been spotted outside a Lifford filling station.
McDonagh has a number of previous convictions including possessing a firearm and ammunition, theft, assault and motoring offences.
He escaped from Loughlin House in 2011 and was later arrested in Northern Ireland.
Judge Donagh McDonagh sentenced him to three years for burglary and two for being carried in the stolen van, with both to run consecutively after he completes his current sentence.
