IT was probably the last evening they wanted to play a match – on the same night as many of them were going to their Debs.
In the Division 1 Minor Championship Semi-Final which took place in Dunkineely this evening Four Masters boys recorded a huge victory over Ardara to claim their place in the Final….and they are celebrating into the night at their Debs.
Four Masters began the game in a flurry of activity quickly taking the lead with two successive points. This was then followed by three quick goals from Patrick Reid, Emmet Doogan and Padraig Carr. The breeze was with the Masters and their confidence and self-assurance was sky high as they continued to dominate, with a consistently impressive team effort. As the half-time whistle was blown the score line said it all, Four Masters 3-08, Ardara 0-02.
As the second half commenced the sky opened with torrential rain and the wind began to howl, Ardara went into the battle full-throttle as the Masters put in a mighty back to the wall performance to contain the renewed Ardara offensive.
As the final whistle blew the score was 3-09 for Four Masters and 1-05 for Ardara.
Tony Cornyn, joint Manager of the Four Masters Minor Team, with Michael Breslin, commented, “we are all absolutely delighted. This is a huge victory for the team and highlights the massive effort that all the lads have put in on the training field and in each and every game they have played. This is a great team and their efforts and dedication are paying off”.
Some of the team were celebrating their Deb’s on the same evening and having had such a fantastic victory their celebrations were surely that much better. It was certainly a great night for these young men, one they will never forget.
Four Masters will now face either Aodh Rua or Dungloe in the Final who will meet on Monday 29th July.
