A short film written by a Donegal man has scooped a major award at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Antoin Beag O’Colla’s Irish language short Rúbaí took home the Best First Short Drama award.
The film tells the story of a young girl who, while her class is preparing for their First Holy Communion, announces the she is an atheist and refuses to participate.
Produced by Gemma O’Shaughnessy for Magamedia Teo, Rúbaí was made under BSÉ/IFB Gearrscannáin short film scheme
Antoin told Donegal Daily that he really wanted to film the movie in his native Magheraroarty but was prevented on doing so by his budget.
“I really enjoyed writing the script and the cast and crew have done a terrific job with it.
“Hopefully this is just the first of many awards for the film and many more films to come,” he said.
