The weather last week was glorious and sometimes nearly too hot for golf but as it probably won’t last, we won’t complain! Magees Chemist Open was, as usual, very popular with the ladies, both members and guests.
The best 36 handicap was Catherine Ryan, Mary Murray achieved the only 2, the visitors prize was won by Ann Spence from Spa (20 points), Connie Reddan won the front 9 (20 points), Catherine Cooke Harkin the back 9 (20 points), 3rd place was Liz Geddes (Spa, 37 points), Marian O’Sullivan won gross (28 gross points), Runner-up was Nuala McGarrigle (39 points BOT) and the winner was Mary Murray (39 points). The Thursday 13 hole competition was won by Peggy Forde with 24 points and Marian O’Sullivan was runner-up with 23 points BOT. Well done to all prize winners and thanks to the sponsors.
It was a very encouraging sight to see 9 lady beginners take their first trip out on the golf course. An enjoyable and informative evening was held with the beginners and some of the senior ladies (in golfing years only!) and we look forward to these beginners taking full part in our club, both golfing and social.
The popular mixed foresomes competition took place on Friday and was enjoyed by all. This competition encourages the gents and ladies to play together and to socialise afterwards and is something that should be run several times during the year. The winners were Maura Cavanagh and Christopher Duffy, runners up were Gerard Duffy and Cynthia Fuery and Eddie and Eileen Harvey were third.
Best wishes to Mr. Captain Henry McCahey on this his Captain’s week from all the Letterkenny ladies.
