The historic An Grianan Fort, which was attacked by vandals this week, is being used in a major campaign to attract tourists to Donegal.
Tourists were attacked and had to witness scenes of carnage after more than 40 people held a party in the 3,000 year old historic site at Burt.
Gardai found beer cans and women’s underwear in the fort while a holy well had been defecated in.
The disgusting attack comes in a week when a major campaign to promote Donegal featured An Grianan.
People are also being asked to send their photos of the historic An Grianan Aileach site to Oxford University.
Gary Lock, Emeritus Professor of Archaeology at the University of Oxford is leading a project to identify and map all the hill forts across Ireland and Britain.
Donegal County Council Tourism Officer Kevin O’Connor says, “We are using the iconic image of An Grianán Aileach in Burt in our summer marketing campaign for GoVisitDonegal.com as we understand its tourist, cultural and historic value.
“So we are now asking visitors to Donegal to send their holiday snaps to Professor Lock to be included in their final piece work which will map all the historic ring forts in Britain and Ireland.”
