Donegal County Council has appealed to the public not to waste water as it announced MORE water restrictions during the hot weather.
Overnight water cut-offs were first announced earlier this week in a number of places across the county.
Now the water services has added a number of new restrictions in a bid to conserve water supplies needed for peak hours.
A spokesman for the council told Donegal Daily “We are appealing to people to think before needless wasting water.
“We appreciate this is great weather but people cannot be filling up paddling pools or allowing taps to flow freely.
“We have to give our reservoirs a chance to fill up and that will not happen if there is an over-demand during this dry period,” he said.
The new restrictions announced by the council include Lifford Reservoir (Lifford Town) and distribution mains serving from Rossgier/ Porthall/ to Swilly Burn and Newrow/ Tironeil area and Letterkenny Road (N14) Cavan Hill junction/ Glencash/ Drumleen/ Creaghadoos/ Gillystown and Drumearn.
Houses in these areas will be without mains water from tonight 10th July2013 @ 11.30pm until 06.00am each night until further notice.
In addition there are already existing restrictions to supplies between 11.00pm till 07.00am in place also within the Trievebrack, Gleenely and Ballynacor areas.
The spokesman added that Donegal is a large county which has major demands on its water supply
“As well as householders people must appreciate that Donegal is a major farming county and there is a huge demand form farmers to feed animals.
“If we use water wisely then the supply will be okay but if it is needlessly wasted then we will encounter problems,” he added.
