Now that summer is finally upon us, it’s important that you wear clothes that are suitable for the hot weather, and that you dress with style and confidence.
The nice people from Evolve in Letterkenny gave us a few tips about how Donegal men can avoid fashion disasters in the hot weather.
T-shirt – The most casual piece of attire a man can wear. A quality designer t-shirt is acceptable for casual summer wear; but if you’re looking to make a good first impression then polo shirts are generally better. When buying a t-shirt, make sure that the fabric is 100% cotton and that it’s not see through
Polo Shirt – When buying a polo shirt, choose polo’s that are made from cotton – although cotton mixed with other fibres are acceptable as they may be used to enhance the fit and comfort. Polo shirts come in a wide range of colours and patterns.
Short Sleeve Shirt – Usually absent from a man’s wardrobe, the short-sleeve shirt is a step up from the casual polo. When buying a short-sleeve shirt, make sure it fits properly at the shoulder points and along the torso. The sleeve length should cover at least 50 to 80 percent of the bicep – the less bicep covered, the more casual the shirt becomes.
Long Sleeve Dress Shirt – If wearing the long sleeve dress shirt during the day, select a light colour but avoid wearing white all the time – experiment with pale blues and pinks. Rolling your sleeves up to the mid-forearm is a stylish look that many choose over wearing a short sleeve shirt
Shorts – Shorts are great for hot summer days. Wear shorts that sit 2-3 inches above the knee. Cotton and linen are great choices due to their fibre properties. As for summer colours, there are so many colours to choose from – tan and stone are two good colours to start with.
Jeans – All jeans are considered casual, however the darker the jeans the more formal it becomes. By nature, jeans are not first choice when it comes hot summer months. The fit of the jean is particularly important. When it’s warm, the extra space provided by slim or tapered cuts will be a welcome relief from your skinny jeans.
Chinos – Chinos are dressier than jeans and an excellent option for the summer and can be dressed up or down. They come in a wide range of colours.
Trousers – Apart from chinos, trousers are some of the best lower body coverings for summer, due to their lightweight and breathable qualities. Wool is a great fabric as it drapes better and resists wrinkling, however it’s less breathable compared to cotton.
Hot Weather Footwear
Boat Shoes – Whether you wear them by choice or for their practical purpose, boat shoes have established themselves as a piece of classic summer footwear. They’re available in a wide variety of colours and can be worn without socks.
Espadrilles – The alternative to boat shoes and sandals, espadrilles are fast becoming the latest trend in men’s summer footwear, mainly because they’re breathable and comfortable to wear without your socks on. Go for more neutral tones such as navy or light tan.
Canvas sneakers – A casual choice perfect for hot weather. These shoes are often made from natural fibres and are light enough to allow your feet to breathe. They go great with shorts, especially when paired with low cut socks, and are even better for wear with jeans and chinos.
Simply mix and match chinos, jeans and shorts with tees, polo’s and casual shirts to create on point and adaptable looks.
And all of these are available at Evolve Menswear right now, with massive reductions across all spring summer styles!
