The National Adjudication of 2013 IPB Pride of Place Competition for County Donegal takes place in the county during the month of July.
Five very worthy initiatives in various categories will be adjudicated including Comharchumann Árainn Mhóir (Islands), Clogher le Chéile, Donegal (Population 0 – 200), An Mhachaire le Chéile, the Rosses (Population 500 – 1000), INSIGHT INISHOWEN (Community Arts Initiative) and Ionad Naomh Pádraig, Gweedore (Population over 2000).
Pride of Place, which is run by Donegal County Council in the context of the broader Co-operation Ireland project has been in operation since 2003 and going from strength to strength since then.
Its objective is to give deserved recognition and to celebrate the vital contributions that community partnerships make to society.
According to Séamus Neely, County Manager, Donegal County Council “Pride of Place is a great way to acknowledge the hard work and selfless endeavour undertaken by communities all over the island of Ireland.
“Donegal County Council is delighted to have played its part in supporting local partnerships in order to show and celebrate the vital contribution that community groups make to our society and demonstrate what local groups can achieve. Donegal County Development Boards strategy “An Straitéis” aims to make County Donegal an all inclusive county for its people to be proud to live in, to visit and to enjoy their lives socially and culturally”.
He added: “I am proud that Donegal has had successes in this prestigious competition every year to date. Last year saw the Castlefinn Partnership Initiative succeeding in winning the overall Community Garden Section which created a great atmosphere of joy, celebration, ambition and most of all great ‘Pride of Place’ throughout the county.”
Donegal County Council will acknowledge the entries to this year’s IPB Pride of Place competition at a special event which will take place during Social Inclusion week – 21st to 27th October 2013. The 2013 IPB Pride of Place winners will be announced at a gala reception in Derry at the beginning of November.
