Senator Jimmy Harte has today welcomed the decision that An Post has been announced as the preferred bidder for the delivery of Social Welfare payments throughout the country.
An Post holds the current contract, which expires at the end of this year, and the announcement that it is the preferred bidder means that negotiations will now proceed with the aim of finalising this contract.
“This is great news, especially for An Post and its workers, but moreover for many social welfare recipients, who can continue to easily access their payments.
“An Post remains part of the fabric of our society. In a time when other institutions are closing down, An Post remain a truly national organisation serving the entire community of Ireland, rural and urban.
“This news will also be welcomed by the network of Post Offices throughout Donegal who will continue their great work, not only in being able to provide Social Welfare payments but also in their day-to-day functions as well.”
