A Letterkenny woman is to represent Ireland in the Transplant Games in Durban, South Africa next month.
Kidney transplant athlete Vienna White will jet out for the games which take place from 28th July – 4th August.
Thanks to her kidney transplant, the 31 year old gave birth to her first child Cameron two years ago, and she can now go on to represent her country at the World Games.
She will be competing in the 30-39 years age category in the following events:
* Badminton Singles
* Badminton Mixed Doubles
* Track & Field Shot Put
* Track & Field Javelin
* Track & Field 4 x 100 Relay Trials
* Track & Field 3000m Racewalk (women)
Vienna is married to Robbie and has a two year old boy called Cameron who is their entire world thanks to her transplant.
Vienna works as a relief milker on dairy farms. She loves playing and teaching the bagpipes. But her main love is playing badminton both competitively and for fun.
Vienna has competed twice at the transplant games for Ireland in 2010 at the European Games in Ireland and in 2009 at the World Games in Australia.
For Vienna it means the world for her to be able to represent Ireland in Badminton at this level. Like the other Irish athletes its also an opportunity to show the world what we can achieve post-transplant and give something in return to all donor families for receiving the gift of life.
Vienna wants MEDALS!! Through the build-up to the games it has created the chance for her to improve her fitness even further.
However her main reason is to promote organ donation and encourage other people to take this issue seriously whilst hearing other athletes’ stories.
