A 19 year old man has been jailed for a total fo 21 months after being found guilty of a burglary spree in Inishowen.
Thomas Ward, of no fixed abode, appeared at Letterkenny District Court today.
Ward is already on remand at Castlerea Prison.
The court heard that Ward broke into a number of premises including LIDL, ALDI, the Chicken Corner, Abrakebabra and Next To Nature in Buncrana starting on March 3rd last.
He also broke into a number of private homes – one of which he ransacked.
Judge Paul Kelly said “He has a terrible history. He appears to have gone from place to place and this was a complete spree.
“It is appalling for a householder to come home and to find this,” he said.
Judge Kelly said the prison services has bent over backwards to accommodate Ward.
The court heard how Ward has a total of 23 previous convictions – many of them from Dublin.
Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said Ward had a lot of history and asked for a chance for his client.
Judge Kelly sentenced Ward to a total of 21 months.
And he advised Ward “I hope you can engage with the court services or you will find yourself back here and make matters worse for yourself.”
