The St Michael’s man scored some wonderful points in the Ulster semi-final win over the Mournemen.
The RTE panel including Pat Spillane nominated Colm, Anthony Thompson and Neil McGee on their shortlist.
But it was the St Eunan’s College teacher who came out on top.
“It was a very tough game,” said McFadden.
“Every time we pushed ahead, Down came right back at us. They really put it up to us. We couldn’t shake them off.”
And was he worried about missing today’s game?
“Our new son Matthew arrived on Wednesday evening so it was a bit touch and go that he might come this weekend,” he said.
“It’s been a good week all round.”
And of course, that’s another nephew for a certain Uncle Jim.
The RTE panel was drooling over the Donegal frontline of McFadden, Murphy and McBrearty.
“Colm McFadden was by far the best player on the field,” said Spillane.
“He was last year’s leading scorer. He is one of the most beautiful strikers of the long distance ball in the modern game or in any era,” said the Kerry legend.
