Sinn Fein Cllr Cora Harvey has called for a massive show of community support for St Joseph’s Hospital.
Speaking in advance of a public meeting in the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar on Thursday next at 7.30pm, she urged the public to come out in support of the under-threat facility.
The Councillor said “I am urging people to come out and send a clear message of support of our community hospital in light of threatened bed closures and respite care cuts at the hospital.
“I have contacted trade union reps from the healthcare sector and those working in community organisations to invite them to the meeting and I have been delighted with the response received.
“My party colleague, Pearse Doherty TD has also offered to facilitate a meeting with the HSE manager for older people services, Kieran Doherty, who has agreed to meet with a deputation from the community on this issue following a request from the Deputy. I hope that people will come forward at the public meeting on Thursday to agree to be part of the deputation.
“I intend to submit an emergency motion to Donegal County Council on Monday morning to call for the recruitment moratorium imposed on the HSE to be lifted and additional resources to be allocated to St Joseph’s Community Hospital, particularly in light of the recent HIQA report,” she said.
