IT’S a tough job – but somebody has to do it.
And so when David McGloin set about raising an anchor which had laid at the bottom of Lough Swilly for 105 years, he wasn’t joking.
The six-tonne anchor was by the company Hingley Hetherton in 1908 – the same company which made the anchor for the Titanic just a few years later.
And this monster was used for ships from Britain’s Royal Navy which used the pier in Rathmullan during World War One.
David, from the Sheephaven Sub-Acqua club, spotted the anchor two years ago whilst working on helping gardai during a search of the area.
This week David and his team returned. They also found some items from the period including Royal Navy teacups!
Local photographer Paul Deeney was on had to capture the events in these images.
