With music fans shunning paid-for festivals because of the soaring price of tickets, the free Glenties Busking Festival 2013 begins today – and continues until Sunday with thousands of euros in prize money for the best buskers.
“It will be a weekend of fantastic entertainment for all the family set against the backdrop of this beautiful traditional town, and all this for free,” said a spokesman.
The spokesman said there is also a junior section for performers up to the age of 17 years old, so this really is a festival for all the family.
Free live entertainment will take place on the street and in the pubs around town tonight with registration taking place on Saturday morning at Glenties Community Centre between 10am and 1 pm.
The actual competition takes place all day Saturday with performances throughout the day on Main Street. Performers will be judged under 3 catagories… Talent, Entertainment value and crowd participation. It should also be mentioned that Busking is not just about musicians, and the Festival is open to all types of street entertainers.
Just because the judging is finished Saturday evening, the entertainment does not stop there! Entertainment will continue through the evening and into the night, with live music and performances on the street and in the pubs.
Sunday will be more of the same with the presentation to Competition winners at 3p.m. on Sunday at the Bridge on Main Street – with plenty of time to watch Donegal v Down on the TV.
This will be followed by performances by all the winning acts and presentations of prizes.
