The Colgan Heritage Weekend takes place from Thursday 27th June to Sunday 30th June in Carndonagh on the Inishowen Peninsula.
On the Sunday afternoon, from 2pm to 3pm, participants from the History Links Project – a local history project that has twinned Inishowen with Limavady – will read and perform drama from their new book launched only days earlier called Forging Friendships.
This will be followed by a question and answer session where audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions or share their own stories sparked by what they have seen on stage.
Project co-ordinator Stephen Mc Namee said “The details contained in the stories and the enthusiasm of the authors to tell them is infectious, an hour will seem too short for many.”
There will be a Folklore Exhibition featuring work by national school children from local schools from the 1937 school collection on display.
The afternoon will conclude with a concise and comprehensive talk by Brian O Doherty, Greencastle, on the life story of Rosa O Doherty in Louvain, Belguim. She was a sister of Sir Cahir O Doherty and played a prominent role in Irish affairs following the Flight of the Earls in 1607.
Among her contemporaries in Europe was the Franciscan Friar John Colgan in whose honour the heritage weekend takes place.
The grand finale of the weekend is the Gala concert on Sunday night at 8pm. This will be an evening of song, music, dance and drama featuring prize winners from Feis Domhnaigh 2013. Admission €10, children €5.
