Letterkenny Rovers Football Club has teamed up with former Republic of Ireland and Leeds United midfielder John Giles for a special day of golf next month.
The John Giles Foundation in association with Letterkenny Rovers is hosting a golf classic at Letterkenny Golf Club on Friday, 26th July.
The RTE football pundit – a keen golfer himself – will compete in the event in addition to performing the presentation of prizes later in the night.
“I’m really looking forward to it”, says the 72 years-old Irish legend.
“We are involved in events throughout the country as part of the Foundation and I’m delighted to get the opportunity to visit Donegal and in particular the Golf Club at Letterkenny as I have heard many favourable reports.
“I play golf regularly so it will be a great challenge and to help Letterkenny Rovers in the process is an added bonus”.
Chairman of Letterkenny Rovers FC Dessie Kelly added: “When John Delaney (FAI chief executive) approached us to run an event in conjunction with John Giles, we felt a golf classic is something that would appeal for many and would allow John to take part as well. He’ll be around all evening so there will be ample opportunity to mix with him”.
The John Giles Foundation drives fundraising initiatives that help football clubs, schools, and community groups to raise funds for themselves and for other worthwhile local projects.
Teams of four, any combination and the cost per team is 80euro. For further information on the golf classic, contact Letterkenny Golf Club on 074 9121150 or any Letterkenny Rovers FC committee member.
