The John Downey Defence Fund has welcomed the support they received from the people of Donegal after a fundraising dance at the weekend.
The committee which was established to raise finances to fight John’s legal battle and support his family to visit him, described the support as ‘overwhelming’.
A committee spokesperson said: “The John Downey Defence Fund Committee would like to thank everyone who attended the dance on Saturday or contributed in anyway to our campaign. The support from the people of Donegal was overwhelming.
“It will be extremely heartening for John to hear that he has such huge support from the community that he loves, and that politicians from all over Ireland have publicly supported the campaign for his release.
“The people of Donegal have said clearly that John’s arrest was wrong. This committee will now continue to campaign until this injustice has been corrected and John is allowed return home to his family.”
