A 15 year old Donegal girl is still pinching herself after being invited to an audience of Riverdance along with Michelle Obama.
Donegal Town teenager Shauna Curran, an active member of youth group Foroige, received an exciting phone call on Thursday last from its head office in Dublin.
Foroige told her she was to be invited to a secret event and would be given the details in the coming days.
The following day Friday 14th June Shauna received an e-mail with all of the details.
At first glance she seen that it was an official invitation from The Embassy of the United States of America with an invitation for her to go to a performance of Riverdance in the Gaeity Theatre Dublin to join the First Lady Mrs Michelle Obama along with her two daughters, Malia and Sasha.
Shauna, a fourth year pupil at the Abbey Vocational School, was the only young person to be selected to represent the North West region.
Shauna has been an active member of Foroige for this past 5 years and she has just completed the Foroige Leadership for Life programme.
Shauna’s mum Ann told Donegal Daily that her daughter had the time of her life despite not getting to meeting the First Lady.
“To actually be invited to a performance of Riverdance and to sit just a few feet from Michelle Obama was a once in a lifetime experience for Shauna. She was overwhelmed.
“She was not a fan of Riverdance before but she loved the show and is telling everyone how they should go and see it now.
“It’s something she will never for get for the rest of her life and it will give her great confidence,” she said.
