June 15, 2013

Susan DenhamIreland’s most senior Judge – the Chief Justice, the Hon Mrs Justice Susan Denham – together with the Chief Executive Officer of the Courts Service, Brendan Ryan, have launched a new single and combined Letterkenny Court Office in the Courthouse in Letterkenny.

They were joined by solicitors, barristers and judges during a reception held in the town on Friday.

The new combined office of the old Circuit and District Court offices are part of the implementation of the Courts Service proactive efforts regarding the Public Service (‘Croke Park’) Agreement.

Val Cronin was appointed the new office manager incorporating the Circuit and District Court offices in Letterkenny.

The Deputy Manager was confirmed as Margaret Sharkey and the officer in charge of Civil / Family Law will be Ms Brid Doherty.

This is part of the 21 changes identified as central to the Courts Service response to the Croke Park Agreement,” said the western regional manager Brendan McDonald.

“The Courts Service Action Plan under the Agreement is designed to equip the Service to deliver services and support frontline court operations, at a time of reduced funding and staff numbers, through a programme of structural, operational and organisational reform.

“This new office structure allows for the optimisation of resources – so as public services do not suffer in a situation of lessened monies and people being available to the Service.”

It was also announced a consultation process is now underway for the new court buildings in Letterkenny. They will be based at the old swimming pool site.
