Mr Higgins said today: “I am delighted and thrilled to have been asked to launch the Ballyshannon 400 celebrations.
“This kind of local initiative shows what can be done, both from a tourism perspective, but also from a community spirit point of view.
“I have looked at the programme of events, which includes archival exhibitions, audio visual exhibitions, cultural nights, sports events, music master classes, guided walks, genealogy, concerts, children’s activities and street entertainment, and I will certainly be encouraging people to visit Ballyshannon this summer.”
Tonight’s launch at the Abbey will include specially commissioned ‘Music and Song’ from the 1600’s with Nuada. The group will perform in costumes from the time and play instruments from the 17 Century.
