THREE Co Donegal women injured in a horror car smash in Australia in February arrived back home in Milford last night.
Sharon Orr, Kelly McCafferty and Karen Kerr were among six Donegal people seriously hurt in the crash in the Belmont area of Perth in February.
The accident happened just two weeks after they had arrived there hoping start new lives.
All suffered serious fractures in the incident.
But for Karen, there was a glittering moment amid the mayhem – boyfriend John Gallagher proposed.
And they announced their engagement to the nation on last night’s Six One RTE News!
John, pictured with Karen above, said: “It was planned but not until later.
“After this happened, I thought we’re never going to get a better place than Australia so I just thought I’d get it over and done with!”
Karen laughed and said: “Thanks John!”
Kelly revealed how the driver of the car in which they were travelling was rammed by another car at a crossroads.
“I have an operation to go through now that I’m home but I’m delighted to be home,” she said.
Sharon Orr, also recovering from the crash, also arrived him. Brother Ciaran, who suffered a broken jaw, has recovered and is staying on in Australia and hoping to get work in the mining industry.
