McCARRON WONDERSTRIKE GRABS ALL THREE POINTS FOR HARPS

Sean McCarron scored quite a spectacular goal to claim all three points from Mervue Utd at Finn Park this evening.Finn Harps

The Derryman took a ball from Thomas McMonagle and spotting visiting goalkeeper Gleeson off his line, he unleashed a 30 yard volley into the top corner.

Harps battled well throughout against a Mervue side who were ahead of Harps going into this game.

This was a typical of the battling spirit Harps have shown this season with Mickey Funston, Ciaran Coll and Tommy Bonner showing the way.

McCarron’s goal came just on the whistle for half-time but Mervue battled well in thr second half.

They could and perhaps should have equalized as they applied real pressure towards the close of the game.

Gary Shanahan was involved in both moves and both times he really should have scored.

He had the goal at his mercy when the ball was cross in from the left with five minutes to go but nodded his header to the right of the target.

The striker then slipped the Harps defence and was straight through on goal only for Harps ‘keeper Ciaran Gallagher to pull off a fine save.

Peter Hutton’s side probably deserved the points on the balance of play.

Harps are now second in the table just a point behind Longford Town but the leaders have a game in hand.

Hutton and Harps would have settle for that at the start of the season.
