BREAKING NEWS: A family of four have been rescued from a boat off the cliffs at Slieve League.
The family of two adults and two young children had to be winched to safety by the rescue 118 rescue helicopter.
A distress call was made to Malin Head Radio Station from the boat, the Nuala Star, just after 11am, after the boat lost power to its engines.
There was a fear the boat could be washed into the rocks at Slieve League.
The helicopter from Sligo was scrambled and took the family to safety.
The captain of the popular boat, which organises trips around the coastline, remained on the boat.
A number of local vessels including the Killybegs Coastguard boat came to his assistance.
It is currently being towed back to port at Teelin.
A spokesman for Malin Head coastguard said everyone was safe and there are no reports of injuries.
“Thankfully it was a successful operation and the boat is currently being towed back to port,” he said.
