The chairman of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee has paid tribute to Garda Superintendent Vincent O’Brien who has announced his retirement.
Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan paid tribute to Supt O’Brien who leaves the force in June after more than 30 years service.
He worked in the Donegal for a long time and began his career in Lifford during the Troubles and climbed up the ranks during a very successful career .
“I would have worked very closely with Supt O’Brien as Donegal JPC Chair and found him to be very knowledgeable in all issues affecting Donegal and in the unique situation we find ourselves in being surrounded by a border, his experience and hard work would have helped to tackle crime.
“I would like to wish him all the best on his well deserved retirement and spoke to him recently about his future plans which will see him doing quite a bit of traveling,” said Cllr McGowan.
