Subscription Voucher
One of the major golfing prizes of the year will be contested by Portsalon members on Saturday 11th May with the main prize on offer of one year’s subscription at Portsalon Golf Club. The prize will reflect the category of the winner in 2013 golfing year i.e full, affiliate, student, country etc) In the event of a family member winning the prize will be the equivalent of a single membership in either the full or country status In order to play in this major golfing event, members must have their membership paid or have an appropriate fee payment arrangement made with the club for your 2013 golfing fees.
Results
It was a busy weekend on Portsalon golf course as the club staged a host of open competitions. With over 250 golfers taking part it was indeed one of the busiest this season. The results were as follows. Saturday the winner was Jim Mc Grath (18) 39 points, runner up Kieran O’Neill (12) 37 points, gross Martin Sutherland (4) 30 points, 3rd Enda mc Elhinney (11) 37 points. Visitor D Mc Aleenan Edenmore. The CSS was 35 points. On Sunday the main event of the week end was the Brian mc Corimick Sports and Leisure open and the winner was Michael Cannon (17) 40 points, runer up Fergus Callaghan (14) 39 points Gross D P Logue (5) 29 points 3rd James Lynch (20) 39 points Visitor N Mc Vicor The Shire. The CSS was 36 points. On Monday the with the improved weather conditions the scoring soared and the winner was Danny Mc Laughlin (26) 45 points, runner up Patrick Wallace (23) 40 points. Gross L Lennox Moyola Park (+2) 35 points, 3rd Michael Leonard (12) 40 points , Visitor D Edwards (17) Otway. On Monday there was a rare occurrence of a hole in one, Joe Logan had the honour as he holed out on the par 3 15th hole. Team News
On Sunday last under the direction of team Captain Kevin Mc Gonagle the Portsalon team travelled to North West for the Jimmy Bruen qualifier. The Portsalon team were lying comfortable in second place however due to an error on one of the cards the team was demoted further down the table. Nevertheless an all round good performance by the team who just missed out on qualification. On Sunday next Tony Morrison will test his managerial skills as he leads his Pierce Purcell team to Letterkenny golf club for the qualifier event. John Strain’s Jimmy Carroll team will play Omagh on Friday 17th in Omagh.
Gaeltacht League.
The Portsalon Gaeltacht League captains prize was staged at Portsalon golf club on Saturday last. The result was as follows winner Tony Kingston , 2nd Barry Keeney gross Tim Browne 3rd Noel Mc Cormick. The Gaeltacht League Captain Donal Callaghan would like to express his thanks to all the players who participated in this season competition.
Donegal Links Classic
The biggest and one of the most eagerly awaited golfing events in the North West is almost upon us. The Donegal Links Classic which is staged over three of Donegal’s most prestigious links golf courses Ballyliffen, Portsalon and Rosapenna golf courses. The Donegal Links Classic is scheduled to run over three days 27th 28th & 29th May 2013.The Donegal Links Classic is one of the longest running team events in the golfing calendar year and is well worth a visit for anyone interested. The format as in previous years is a team of four (gents or ladies). There is a host of prizes on offer daily team and individual prizes on each of the course on a daily basis and the overall prizes for the three days golfing. Match Play Competitions.
The deadline for the match play competitions has been extended to Sunday 12th May. All entries must be in by 4 p.m The match play draws fro both singles and doubles will take place on Sunday evening.
Sympathy
The Captain Joe Harkin and members of Portsalon Golf VClub extend their deepest sympathy to Paul Blaney and the Blaney family on the death last week of Harry Blaney . may he rest in peace.
Protect Your Course.
Replacing divots is no more than good golf etiquette. So we should all think of our fellow golfers and replace our divots. In addition all members are encouraged to take a Divot Bag with them on their golfing round and replace the divot with either the mixture or the actual divot. Divot bags are available on entry to the first tee box and also at the 5th & 12th tee boxes.. Please ensure that you pick up a divot bag and assist with the course maintenance. If you forget to collect your divot bag at the first tee there is another chance to do so on the second tee.We can all play a part.
Local Rule-Stakes and Ropes
All members and visitors are reminded that a local rule is in operation regarding the identified areas surrounding our greens. This is an action taken to protect the areas surrounding the greens.
Placing
Members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only was is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.
