The normally tranquil and picturesque Oakfield Park in Raphoe, home to Sir Gerry and Lady Heather Robinson, will be transformed into a hive of activity this weekend.
You can choose from steam trains crisscrossing the lush parklands, donkey rides along the coach road , duck races on the water and live entertainment to suit all the family.
And if that wasn’t enough there’s a special Midnight Express train promising passengers a magical mystery tour through the candle lit lake and gardens. This has sold out!
It’s all part of the Irish Cancer Society “Relay for Life” fundraiser that includes a chance to win a half day one to one business advice session with Sir Gerry Robinson. Every €50 donated by a business guarantees a ticket in a draw for three individuals to win a session with the financial guru.
The Oakfield “Relay for Life” begins at 6 o’clock on Saturday evening with the 24 hour marathon train pulling out of the station as the Coundown Clock starts ticking away the next 24 hours.
The highlight of the evening will be the Midnight Express transporting passengers to a bygone age on a fun filled journey of twinkling lights.
The Family Fun Day opens at midday on Sunday with Highland Radio’s DJ Paddy Friel getting the show on the road joined later in the afternoon by tv personality Noel Cunningham providing entertainment in his own inimitable way as he hosts the live music event. The day will be filled with fun and games for all the family.
The draw for the sponsorship Prize takes place at 5 o’clock and who knows Ireland’s next Entrepreneur of the Year could well be at Oakfield Park. But everyone will be a winner by helping raise funds for cancer research.
