Letterkenny is to get an ice-rink as part of an ambitious plan that will create at least 30 new jobs.
The plan for the 21,000 sq foot development is the brainchild of Century Cinemas owner Mark Doherty.
The development will also include a play area that will incorporate climbing walls, a snack bar and other amusements.
It is hoped to have the synthetic ice-rink open by June while the other developments will begin by Christmas.
A source close to the multi-million euro project told Donegal Daily the plan is a real investment in the future of the county.
“There are currently around 30 people employed at Century Cinemas and the new project will see that double and perhaps even go up to 80 full-time and part-time positions.
“It’s a real investment for the future and will make the area an overall attraction for families,” he said.
Permission for the plan, which will be on the site of the old Tony Kelly garage next to Century Cinemas, has already been given the green light by Donegal County Council.
The new ice–rink will have the feel of a real ice-rink – the first such development in the county.
“There is nothing like it around and it will be part of an over site which will incorporate the best in family entertainment around.
“The cinema is already there and this will be a natural extension of what will become an entertainment hub,” added the source.
