Clonmany Shamrocks 2-0 Glengad United
Clonmany clinched the Jackie Crossan premier league title at the first time of askign when they completed the league double over an out of form Glengad side.Clonmany were keen to get the ball forward early while Glengad were more patient trying to play from the back but the first chance fell to the shamrocks on 10 minutes when jason Devlin fired over from twenty yards.Two minutes later they took the lead after a ball over the top found the unmarked Michael Devlin who fired to the bottom corner from fifteen yards.Glengad repleid and when Stepjhen Mclaughlin swung in a superb cross from the right there was no one there to finish the cross.Clonmany doubled their lead on 29 minutes when Mark Mclaughlin beat a defender on the right and from the right hand side of the area unleashed a viscious cross shot which flew into Martin Mclaughlin’s top right hand corner.Mi nutes Later McLaughlin again weaved past two defenders on the right and his dipping shot drifted inches over the bar.Clonmany were forced into a change on 35 minutes when jason Devlin was replaced by Conor Bradley.Before the break Glengad played a short corner to Jason Doherty who stepped inside a defender and unleashed a twenty yards effort which went just over the angle of post and bar.Glengad made a substitution then with Seamus Doherty replacing John McDaid.On the restart Clonmany had an early chance after a dangerous Michael Devlin cross was superbly cleared by John G McDermott.Glengad upped the tempo with Charlie Byrne seeeing a twenty five yards effort tipped over the bar by Harkin before the shamrocks keeper spilled a free kick but Liam Hirrell cleared the danger.On 64 minutes Mark McLaughlin broke clear into the area but drilled his effort across goal and wide.Glengad pressed in the final twenty minutes with Seamus Doherty seeing his free kick tipped onto the bar by Harkin before the same player rose unchallenged to mee Patrick McDermott’s corner on 77 minutes but headed over.JG McDermott & JG McLaughlin combined to release Terence Doherty on the right but his driven cross was parried by Harkin at full stretch befre being cleared.The final chance Glengad had was another good one after JG McLaughlin controlled on his chest but fired wide from ten yards.So for the second season Glengad suffer dissappointment but Clonmany deserve grerat credit as when the pressure was on they won the games they needed to.
Cockhill Celtic 2-2 Moville Celtic
Cockhill started this game well and on 15 minutes Michael Coyle rattled the base of the post with a well hit effort from the edge of the area.They went close again minutes later when Darragh McDermott saw a close rnage header well saved by Sean McGuinness.The home side’s pressure paid off on 20 minutes when Liam Mccarron’s ball over the top found McDermott who unleashed a fifteen yards volley which crashed in off the underside of the bar.But Moville hit back immediately and equalised when Joe Doherty’s corner was headed home by the unmarked Raymond Campbell past Leo McColgan.On the stroke of half time Moville took th lead when Nigel McMonagle raced clear of the home defence to slip the ball past McColgan.The second half was a very tight affair with defences on top and no clear chances.On 82 minutes Joe Doherty was denied by a superb reflex save from McColgan.With a minute remaining Cockhill salvaged a point when Coyle crossed for McDermott to head past McGuinness from clsoe range.
AILEACH CROWNED RESERVE PREMIER CHAMPIONS:
Aileach Res 0-0 QPS Res
Aileach reserves got the draw they needed to clinch the reserve premier title despite QPS who required a win dominating the game the first half was spolied by a strong wind and rain alough the second half was played in sunshine both teams took time to settle and adapt to the conditions Aileach’s Stephen Doherty had an early shot which Gavin Gallagher in the visitors net held well on the 7th min a good QPS move involving Fergal Buchannan and Stephen Mc Carron resulted in a corner which was taken by Paul Hegarty who found the head of Seannan Mc Colgan who’e effort was wide of the upright on 10 min Aileach’s Ciaran Craig picked out Gavin Doherty his cross fell to Liam Burke his shot was blocked by Mark Barron, Mark Duffy then put in a cross for the visitors which Mc Colgan diverted wide then the same player brought a fine save from David Mc Geady, Aileach’s defence then headed a Mc Carron cross behind before Mc Geady saved well from Fergal Buchannan the Point did find the net but it was ruled offside the second half was played in better conditions with the visitors pressing for the important goal and Aileach counter attacking Mc Colgan made a good run down the left and picked out Buchanan but he shot across goal then Mark Duffy’s cross was headed down by Mc Carron to Paul Hegarty who dragged his shot wide at the other end Stephen Doherty broke on the left his dangerous cross was well held by Gavin Gallagher Aileach then had another opportunity from Gregory Doherty’s free Stephen Doherty flicked his effort wide QPS squandered a golden opportunity when Mark Duffy played Fergal Buchanan through for a one on one with Mc Geady with Mc Geady getting a vital hand to the ball to divert away from goal then Aileach’s Damian Barr headed a Gregory Doherty free over the bar with the visitors pushing men forward Ruari Bradley broke clear on the counter attack but Gallagher advanced quickly to narrow the angle and Bradley’s effort hit the side netting then Gallagher plucked the ball from the head of Ciaran Craig a quick throw in by Dean Hegarty to Seannan Mc Colgan who played Hegarty down the left his cross fell to Mc Carron who’s effort cannoned off a defender and was cleared Aileach’s best effort of the game came from Stephen O’ Donnell who’s low driven shot brought a fine save from Gallagher Aileach got the draw required and now add the league title to the reserve league shield won last week while QPS take runners up spot in the league in what was the last game in the reserve premier division this season.
FATHER O’GARA CUP
Moville Res 2-1 Carrowmena FC
Moville advanced to the semi finals when they came from behind to dispose of neighbours Carrowmena.In windy conditiosn both teams took time to settle but on 21 minutes jason Crumlish saw his free well saved by Maurice McGeady.Moville replied with Conor Lafferty feeeding Conor Lafferty but Michael Noone advanced to gather.Before the break a Crumlish corner found Cory O Brien but he headed over the top.The visitors then lost keeper Noone to injury with mark Doherty taking over.Carrowmena opened the scoring on 46 minutes after Crumlish crossed for JP McDermott to slot home from clsoe range.The home side hit back with james Gillen heading wide before Sean Downey seeing an effort saved by Doherty.Carrowmena had a great chance on 57 minutes to increase their lead when mark McGonigle raced clear in a one on one but McGeady advanced to clear.Moville levelled on 66 minutes when John Gillen fed Lafferty to lift the ball over the advancing Doherty.Both Conor Doherty for the home side and McGonigle for the visitors then blazed over the bar when well placed.Moville ended the game strongly with Diwney heading over from a corner before they struck for the winner on 82minutesafter Gillen had an effort parried by Doherty for Michael Gillespie to fire home the rebound via the post.They had the last chance after Gillen released Lafferty but his attempted chip drifted just over.
Dunree United 1-2 Rasheney FC
Dunree took an early lead on 11 minutes when Daniel McLaughlin raced onto a ball over the top to fire low past Johnathan Noone from twenty yards.Midway through the half a superb ball from Conor McBride foundThomas Mulhern but he misjudged the ball and the chance was lost.Rasheney hit back and when a corner broke to John Doherty he was denied at point blank range by Paul McGettigan.Before the break Dunree had another chance after a Kevin McColgan cross found Mcbroide at the back post but he fired wide.Rasheney upped the tempo on the restart and when John Mclaughlin raced onto a ball over the top he fired over wehn well placed.They got back on terms on the hour when Anthony Doherty bundled the ball home follwoing a free kick into a crowded area.Within a minute they had taken the lead when Christy Ivers effort went in off the post.Dunree tried to reply when Mulhern fed Neil Moran but he was denied by a good save from Noone.At the other end McLaughlin raced onto a ball over the top again but fired over.Dunree pressed in the closing stages but the closest they came was when a McGuinness free was well claimed by Noone.
QPS 7-1 Cockhill Colts
QPS ran out comfortable winners over a gallant a Cockhill Colts side in this Fr O’ Gara cup quarter final at Muff on Thursday night. Liam Lynch in the Colts goal was called into action early in the game to deny Odharn Mc Colgan and Kevin Wallace before he was beaten by a volley from Dean Barron in the 11thminuite from just inside the 18 yard area .Paul Grant then hit the side netting following a good move down the left before Lynch parried a Paul Hegarty effort but the rebound fell to Odhran Mc Colgan and his effort was cleared. The home side increased their lead on 33 minutes when Raymond Buchanan crossed for Dean Barron to score from close range. Cockhill’s Kevin Mc Daid fired in a shot which Mc Colgan in the home net gathered low to his right. Just before the break the home side made it three when Buchanan crossed for Mc Colgan whose shot cannoned off the crossbar hit the back of a defender and into the net. Cockhill had a good chance at the start of the second half but Garry Breslin headed a Shaun Gillespie cross over the bar while at the other end Lynch tipped a Buchanan free over. The swifts got their fourth in the 58th minute when Buchanan’s corner was headed back across goal by Barron for Paul Hegarty to fire past Lynch from 14 yards. Brian Mc Colgan then fired wide and lynch made a fine save from Barron before Gerard Green released Carl Donnelly who slotted past Lynch for goal number five. Cockhill got the goal their efforts deserved when Garry Breslin shot low past Mc Colgan from the edge of the area and were unlucky not to add a second minutes later. The home side got their sixth when Barron completed his hat trick from the penalty spot with Lynch getting a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out while Paul Grant wrapped up the scoring with a fine left foot volley just before the full time whistle.
