The monsters of the deep have been spotted off the coast of Donegal.

The county’s coastline enjoys a major number of Basking Sharks who visit the north-west each year.

The creatures, which can grow up to 13 metres long, usually begin arriving long before now.

But the cold weather has meant that the shark’s main source of food, plankton, has been missing form the sea.

But the good news is that there have been the first sightings of sharks off Inishowen on April 6th.

Basking Shark co-ordinator Emmett Johnson said the sightings should be the first of many to come as temperatures begin to rise.
