A number of people have received treatment after eating what is believed to have been an out-of-date batch of Easter eggs made from goat’s milk.
The confectionary is understood to have been sold door-to-door around a number of towns across Donegal including Letterkenny, Buncrana, Dungloe and Ballyshannon.
The eggs, called Fool’s Temptation, are understood to have originated from a factory in Belfast.
The chocolate eggs were sold at a knockdown price and are understood to have been distributed by a company called R Abbott and Sons.
A number of people have been treated for various illnesses since eating the eggs including the runs and having to hop off to the toilet every five minutes.
One health official told Donegal Daily that he cannot believe so many people were fooled into buying the cheap eggs and didn’t suspect anything untoward.
“We’re determined to get to the bottom of this. Whoever sold these eggs have some cheek,” he said.
He pleaded with people to check the date on all such items if they are offered such goods again.
Some of the suspect eggs are believed to have contained a display-by date of April 1st, 2007.
