It was a busy yet successful weekend for the club’s senior and reserve teams, as both kicked off their league campaigns with a double fixture weekend.
Things got underway in Buncrana on Good Friday evening with both teams getting off to winning starts. The seniors ran out 2-04 to 0-15 winners in the end with a little thanks to a Michael Murphy masterclass. Murphy kicked a total of 13 points in the game while Caolan ‘Savi’ McFadden and Caolan Kelly added a point each to the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, the reserves battled to a 0-8 to 0-5 victory in their game to round off a very satisfactory day for the Glen. Less than 48 hours later both teams were in action again, this time travelling to a fairly blustery McCumhaill Park to take on the men from the Twin Towns. The reserves started proceedings by gaining a well deserved point after coming from behind very late in the game, with the final score being 1-2 to 0-5. As the Spirit of Freedom Band drummed through the streets of Stranorlar, Michael Murphy continued to show an immense spirit of his own ‘drumming’ over a total of 5 points for the seniors in what proved to be a straightforward 0-02 to 0-12 win for Gary McDaid’s charges. Fellow county man Gary ‘Copper’ McFadden managed 4 points of his own in the game while Glenswilly’s other scores came from the feet of Caolan Kelly (0-02) and Darren McGinley (0-01). Both teams can take a great amount of pride in what was a demanding weekend, as the Glen lie on top of both the Division 2 and Division 2 Reserve leagues.
Neither team plays next weekend due to Donegal taking on Dublin on Sunday the 7th April in the National Football League. Throw in there is at 3pm in Ballybofey.
